Michael Jackson a murit joi la vârsta de 50 de ani într-un spital din Los Angeles unde fusese transportat de urgenţă în urma unui stop cardiac, o veste ce a provocat o undă de şoc pe măsura celebrităţii planetare a celui supranumit “regele popului”, care a concertat inclusiv în România.
“Dl. Jackson a fost transportat la spital (…) era inconştient atunci când a fost adus, iar decesul său a fost constatat în această după-amiază (joi – n.r.) la ora 14.26 (vineri, 0.26, ora României)”, a declarat la CNN un purtător de cuvânt de la institutul medico-legal din comitatul Los Angeles, locotententul Fred Corral, confirmând astfel informaţii difuzate anterior de presa americană.
Potrivit Los Angeles Times şi site-ului internet specializat în ştiri despre vedete TMZ.com – cel care a dat primul vestea decesului – Michael Jackson, care în august ar fi împlinit 51 de ani, a fost victima unui stop cardiac la domiciliul său de la Holmby Hills, un cartier de lux din nord-vestul Los Angeles-ului, unde vedeta închiriase o casă din ianuarie. După ce paramedicii au încercat să-l resusciteze, dar în zadar, a fost transportat la spitalul Ronald Reagan al Universităţii California din Los Angeles (UCLA), aflat la câţiva kilometri depărtare.
